What is the deal with George Lucas?
I remember back in the day he would always say how he wrote the scripts for 9 Star Wars movies in High School, and college. But since episode 1 came out he's been trying to say he didn't write the scripts until 1999, and completely ignore previous comments he made like he ignores the Star Wars holiday special. Why is it at first he wanted to say he wrote all the scripts decades ago, but now he is trying to pretend that he never said that and he didn't come up with the scripts until recently?
George Lucas isn’t a writer; he's a film maker, so he thinks visually. A new hope was really thin on plot, just a chase movie. Empire was written by Leigh Bracket an accomplished sci fi author, and then (after her untimely death) Lawrence Kasdan, who’s films were always about character development.
If Lucas did have 9 movies in mind when he wrote the series, it probably was condensed by the writers into the last 2 films. Star Wars was a land mark film that set a new standard in what was considered “B” films, and I’m sure the writers were trying to make their stories live up to the first one (Empire is the best of all 6).
Look at the prequels, he could should have used better writers on all 3 films, they were all padded with crap not related to plot. The writing was horrible, the acting was worse.
The Prequels are children's films.
